Development

The Planning application for the first part of the development of London Ashford Airport at Lydd has been submitted to Shepway DC. The application covers the building of a new terminal to allow for up to 500 thousand passengers a year. A further application for the runway extension has also been submitted, (not as reported in the media, to allow "Jumbo Jets" to land) but to allow for quieter and safer operation of the airport with small and medium sized aircraft, the largest being Boeing 737 or Airbus A 319 size.

Fully details plans and the environmental impact assesment work ups for the applications can be found at the UK planning portal here

Jobs for locals Lydd Airport promised increased EMPLOYMENT for the Romney Marsh Area. It is happening already, to date 86 people are employed by the Lydd Group and of these 65 are local to the airport. That is over 75%, and total spending on training has been over £43,000 in 2005. This belies the claims that all the jobs being created will be for people from outside the area

Better Transport Links have been promised with the development of Lydd Airport, this is starting to happen LARAG Lydd Action Rail Group has had several meetings with Transport providers and plans to provide better RAIL & BUS Links are underway. Visit www.larag.org.uk to find out more.
